About Watoomba Web Service
Watoomba Web Service began
in early 1996 as a partnership between Kevin Garrety and George Lafferty when
Kevin realised numerous web pages with poor design and users had a number of troubles
navigating within them. Kevin saw the potential of the Internet and if more
people were going to use it, they would have to be able to better navigate
using time efficiently. He approached George with the proposal of starting a
small company in which they would teach people how to write html and design
good websites. Drawing from a Harvard study on techniques of design they
launched Watoomba Web Service named after George’s and Kevin’s home town.
Watoomba Web Service still
remains Brisbane’s best Internet training company with many successful
website designers accredited by this company. Watoomba Web Service has won
several national awards and an international one in 2001 making it a
contender for the best Internet training company in Australia. There has been
much planning to open a branch in Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland. A Sydney
site has been acquired and construction will be under way in mid 2004.
Melbourne and Auckland councils are still in negotiation as to a training
site.

George Lafferty
George was born in 1973
in the same small Queensland town of Watoomba. He graduated from a Sydney
boarding school, Sydney Grammar. Then graduated from the University of
Queensland at Gatton with a undergraduate degree in Agricultural Science.
He then headed back out to his family farm in which he helped his dad run
the farm. When approached by Kevin he raised most of the capital. While
George has never been involved on the academic side of Watoomba Web Service
he provides the financial backing and is still the major shareholder in the
company. George enjoys Italian films and is heavily fascinated by Tibetan
culture. He hopes to travel to Nepal some day.
